Thomas Dadford Canal Boat Trips

IMPORTANT NOTICE

‘Following a routine ultrasound survey of the hull, the steel plates were found to have become worn to an un-acceptable thickness. Given the age and limited size of the boat in conjunction with a number of other factors, the Trust considers that re-plating is impracticable at this time. Consequently it is with much regret that the boat will be withdrawn from service for the 2017 season pending a review of its future use. Please be aware that the cost of re-plating is not a primary factor in its withdrawal.’

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO  INCLEMENT WEATHER, SAILINGS CAN BE SUBJECT TO SHORT NOTICE CANCELLATION

Thank you for an excellent trip on the canal this morning, the 3 of us really enjoyed it and have told others to make use of this great trip, Many Thanks

  2. Mike says:

Bit confused. We stood waiting for 30 mins on Saturday 7th Sept for the boat from quarter to until quarter past, when I decided to ring the enquiries number on the sign. I was advised that the boat was running and arrived on the hour. We decided to walk up the canal to see if it was coming, only to find the boat locked and moored up some 150 yards up the canal?? Very disappointing, and will not be returning.

I have recently been walking many of the parts of the network. The Resolven to the end is extremely disappointing – the locks are marked up with when they were restored are not that long ago. The section is absolutely wrecked for potential boaters. I would be extremely grateful if someone could post a reply as to how this came to be and who owns this section. I had every intention of buying a licence and cruising this waterway. in addition to this problem access on the lower section to the Tonna slipway is prevented??

It seems very odd that I cannot easily buy a licence, slip my boat and cruise about. Any response would be hugely welcomed.

    Many thanks

    Mike

I had a chat with the boat crew on Sunday and it was apparent that getting crews is an issue – I would like to assist. I have owned and used many boats over the years (and I am an ETA). Please give me a shout and I will gladly assist.

We took the last trip today (July 5, 2014), and we loved it! Beautiful scenery, charming boat and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic boatsmen. It was our three-months old first ever boat trip as well. This is definitely something worth checking out when you’re in or near Neath!

  6. The Rawlinson Family says:

We just wanted to thank the kindly stranger who helped us find Thomas Dadford moored up along the towpath and our friendly Captain who despite the rain, took us aboard and gave us a trip to remember. We hope that we can return again in the future on a sunnier day and see the improvements at Tonna. One suggestion though, the recent B&Q parking changes, put a warning on your website! Maybe write to HQ and ask for special “visitor” passes that only crew can issue. The situation could put visitors off otherwise. All the best.

Took our two grandchildren on the canal trip Tuesday 26 04 14. We all enjoyed the experience and the boats men were so informative and helpful.Probably one of the most enjoyable 50 minutes you will remember. We will be going back again soon for a second helping!

    • Martyn says:

Are we allowed to paddle on the canal? We have recently purchased kayaks and looking for some nice quiet canals to paddle along. Any tips, useful advice for new starters. thank you, Paul

    Not Happy
we made a 80 mile round trip yesterday , Saturday the 10/06/15 to have a boat trip. Waited for a long time,The boat was tied up an no one around. nowhere on the web site does it say not running in the rain or intermittent service. Also I contacted yourselves before we came for tickets for this Saturday so you new we were coming. Waste of time and petrol you should not be advertising an attraction which only exists some times.

  10. Lisa says:

    Hi there.
I am a teacher in Swansea and we are stufying the topic of “water”. Are there any opportunities for educational visits to the canal?

    Lisa.

  11. Alex Jones says:

The state on the canal past zoars ark and right up until the end at Briton ferry is the worst I have ever seen it! Neglected, overgrown and full of litter and rubbish, the worst section being behind millands road. It is very sad to see it in this mess and an absolute sham when the section fromt he boat trip area and up past Tonna is so well maintained and clean.

  12. A. Hancox says:

    Hi,
Just wondering if I can paddle my kayak along these canals, Neath and Tennant..I have have noticed that a lot of taxpayers money has gone in to improving the Tennant and Neath canal over the years now, so assume its Okay to use them for what they were intended..as well as walking and cycling along the towpath.
