Canalside Walk - 21 May 2006

Members of the Neath and Tennant Canals Trust met at the Railway Tavern at Aberdulais for a guided walk to Ynysbwllog Aqueduct.

The walk was led by Mr Peter Ricketts (Chairman of the Trust), who has a vast knowledge of the canal and its surrounding area.
Along the way he pointed out to the group many industrial remains, the group stopping at Machin Lock where we were shown an old tramroad tunnel and the remains of an old water balance, used for bringing coal drams to the surface from lower coal seams.
He showed us the remains of the old toll road and eventually at Ynysbwllog told us of the on-going plans for its reconstruction.
Peter?s enthusiasm certainly helped to brighten a very damp walk.
