Towpath Improvements

Neath Port Talbot Council is upgrading the towpath along the canal courtesy of a grant from the Welsh Assembly Government. It is a great improvement for all those using the towpath. The company doing the work used the Tonna workshop area as a base while doing the section from Neath to Aberdulais.

Neath Canal Depot Tonna

The Depot consisted of a workshop, store, smithy , wood seasoning shed and sawpit which now belong to the Trust and across the lock are the Lock house and Stables which are now privately owned. The Workshop site was flooded in February 2020.

Aberdulais Aqueduct

The Aqueduct, completed in 1824 to join the Neath and Tennant Canals, is a Grade 11* listed building and Ancient Monument. It suffered considerable damage in the flooding in February 2020.

Thomas Dadford

Thomas Dadford was launched in 1990 and became a much loved feature of the canal until 2018 when the hull became so worn it was beyond economic repair.
